Up 5-7, listened to a couple of radio episodes of Philip Marlowe.
Up for real 10ish. Breakfast, coffee.
Read 50 p. Garnier w/ interruptions.
Called Dad, 2:45-3:30.
Recovered until 5.
Watched a piano lesson.
Sat 15 min. 12 p. Ashbery, 1 p. notebook.
Watched the rest of Kathy O’ w/ Bree, ate leftovers.
Piano - chromatic scales, “Dancers in Love,” “Stella By Starlight”
Read about 12 p. Carnap, Logical Syntax of Language
Long break after 8. Crossword - I guess they release them earlier than I thought, 6 min.
Took trash out, short walk at 10. Stayed up for a while, worked ahead on next weeks radio show — got sort of excited about segueing from Robert Wyatt’s “At Last I Am Free” to Go4 “He’d Send In The Army,” so put together the first 20 min. of the set. Lights out 12:30.

Up 8:30 am.
Coffee/breakfast.
Sat 15 min. Used a cushion.
12 p. Ashbery. 1 p. poetry notebook.
Bridge work 11:30-1:30. Slowly getting back into ch. 2; I’ve dallied too long.
Talked to Bree’s mom on Zoom for a while around 2. Put in another long sentence at the end of the intro so I wouldn’t forget it.
Spent 30-45 min. starting my Carnap response paper. I think I can do this, though it will take more hrs/day next week than I’d like.
Piano about 40 min - checked out another lesson, printed and played Horace Silver’s “Sister Sadie.”
A cousin called as I was about to tune into the Segue reading on Zoom; just family chat. Missed Edwin Torres, caught Ann Lauterbach’s chat while preparing beets, turnips, and rice grits with Bree. More palatable than that sounds.
Listened to audio of the Davis/Coltrane quartet from an SF gig, “So What” and one other tune, audio apparently put online so a collector could sell the only existing acetate.
Interesting, though you can only year horns and drums; if I could hear Paul Chambers and (especially) Wynton Kelly, I’d probably try to rip the audio.
Helped Bree clean up longer than usual; listened to a good, succinct Brazilian pop/hip-hop album by Flora Matos, which I got onto through a twitter follower. Particularly sold on “Me Ame Em Miami” and “I Love You.”
Spent 9-10 working out harmony exercises from the Schoenberg class. Fun syntactical exercise for me, a little like learning rules for wff in a formal language.
Walk outside at 10. Did Crossword, watched Thumbscrew’s Vanguard set.
Stayed up to read first 50 p. of Philippe Garnier, Scoundrels and Spitballers.
Lights out around 1.
Good day - hit a lot of projects, and spent time w/ Bree.

Was up 5-7 am - had breakfast. Up for real 11. Coffee.
Started working on radio show at noon, finished assembling file at 3.
Took an hour break, made coffee.
Entered the playlist and filled out the log - just about exactly an hour. Listened to “John Tchchai * Strange Brothers” (1978), very Ornette-ish, w/ no chordal instruments. https://destination-out.bandcamp.com/album/john-tchicai-strange-brothers (That’s the bandcamp link; whole record’s also on YouTube).
Uploaded radio show to dropbox, send the email link later. One more to go.
Had last night’s leftovers. Remembered I told an extended family member on CA time I’d call today before 5.That took a while.
Mostly exhausted. Watched cooking and Zen videos. Added a couple of things to our grocery order. Spent a chunk of the evening just transferring links from open tabs to a different document so I could close the windows. Plan is to revisit 1 or 2 per day - and try not to open a ton more. Next project of this kind should be to deal with a ton of open pages in my phone browser.
Ordered a few more of those Ideal notebooks I like.
Took out trash and recycling, short walk outside (really, just hung around under a scaffold in the rain). Crossword, looked up more than usual. Listened to part of an interview w/ an Mel Weitsman, an American Zen master who died recently - of course, the guy also studied painting with Clifford Styll, and played early versions of In C with Terry Riley. These bohemians.
Email triage. Sat 15 min.
Lights out midnight.
Not much work outside of the radio show, which needed to get done.
Couldn’t get to sleep; got up, wrote my 1 p. poem, read 12 p. Ashbery. Listened to an old Philip Marlowe radio episode. Got to sleep after 2.
1/14
Up 8. Listened to some of a Jacobin podcast about the right.
Breakfast/coffee.
Wrote “yesterday’s” notebook poem (had actually put down a few lines 2 days ago), and todays.
Skimmed the end of a creativity “self-guide” I’d been looking at. Not naming it, but I guess it’s too flaky for me.
A dozen p. of Ashbery. “Unlike the Cameleopard” and “Resisting Arrest.”
Sat 15 min.
Hr. of financial/online stuff, + a family email. Made coffee, clled dad about 2:30-3:30.
Took a break. Read Dogen for half an hour. Worked on the radio show for an hr.; recorded first talk segment.
Dinner - ordered in, Lebanese.
Back to radio, made it to the halfway (1 hr. mark). Should take 3 hrs tomorrow.
Joined Bree to talk to Ron in L.A. - discussed recording and MIDI in Logic.
Walk at 10. Crossword, about 30 min. Lights out 11:30.

Up 8:30.
Last Carnap seminar, 11-2:30. I think I have an idea for something I can write a short paper about (just as an exercise, though I’m not sure why I signed on to this rather than auditing or something).
Online tasks.
Therapy 4:15-5:30.
Phone call w/ neighbor who’s taking over as secretary on building’s board; I think this conversation was my last responsibility.
Watched 30 min. of a movie w/ Bree: Kathy O’ (Jack Sher, 1958), w/ Dan Duryea, Jan Sterling, Patty McCormick (The Bad Seed herself), and Sam Levene. Odd tone, kind of like lesser Sirk or Ray. (Had watched the opening last night, didn’t note it down.)
After 10, Walked to bank on next block to deposit checks (for Bree as well).
Crossword. Friday gets harder. Did some work on the gospel radio show - picked a few more songs, started the Audacity file, assembled first set.
Lights out 12:30. No piano, no (offline) reading to speak of. The Carnap took it out of me, intellectually.
